A SLAP TO JUSTICE: THE TRESPASS ON NEXT FOODS LIMITED AND THE THREAT TO OUR LEGAL ORDER

As the Voice of the People, I must raise this alarm—because justice, when trampled, must be defended by all who still believe in law and order.

A recent development involving Next Foods Limited, located in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, reveals a blatant abuse of judicial process and a gross act of impunity. This issue was courageously brought to light by Mr. Peter Obi, who expressed his deep concern over an individual unlawfully occupying the property despite several pending court applications, including duly filed and served committal proceedings.

According to Mr. Obi:

> “It is profoundly disheartening that, notwithstanding the pendency of several applications before the court—including duly filed and served committal proceedings—the individual who unlawfully entered the premises of Next Foods Limited in Ikeja GRA has continued to act with brazen impunity, showing utter disregard for both the authority of the court and the sanctity of public order.” — Peter Obi

This is more than a property matter—it is an attack on the principle of rule of law. In a civilized nation, when parties take their disputes before a court of competent jurisdiction, they are expected to halt any provocative action and allow the law to take its course. The moment we begin to ignore this, we invite lawlessness, conflict, and civic collapse.

> “It is a well-established principle of law, and indeed of civil society, that once parties have submitted their grievances to the judiciary, they are duty-bound to maintain the status quo and allow the court to determine the issues before it. Any deviation from this principle not only undermines the justice system but also sets a dangerous precedent for lawlessness.”

Despite being clearly wronged, Mr. Obi and his younger brother—who serves as the Chairman of Next Limited—chose the path of peace. They made repeated efforts to contact the woman laying claim to the property. Their goal? To resolve the matter amicably. Yet, all efforts were in vain.

> “My younger brother, who serves as the Chairman of Next Limited, and I have spared no effort in trying to identify and reach out to the woman who lays claim to the property in question, with the sincere intention of exploring a peaceful and amicable resolution. Regrettably, all such efforts have yielded no fruitful outcome, as she remains evasive and inaccessible.”

This is unacceptable.

When the courts are ignored, democracy is mocked. When citizens resort to self-help in legal matters, the very foundation of justice is threatened.

As Voice of the People, I call on the relevant authorities—particularly the Nigerian Judiciary and Law Enforcement Agencies—to act firmly and swiftly. If this matter is not handled in accordance with the law, it will embolden others to do the same, leading us down a path of chaos.

What We Demand:

Full enforcement of court orders regarding this matter

Immediate investigation into the unlawful occupation of the property

A public reaffirmation of the judiciary's authority in all civil matters

Conclusion:

Let us be clear—this is not just about Next Foods Limited. This is about protecting the soul of our justice system. If we fail to speak now, we give silence to lawlessness. And if justice falls silent, then who will be safe?
